This article describes a B360 feature that allows the user to specify a buffer time that is either added to or subtracted from the system calculated drive time (using Google Maps), when setting the yard departure and yard return times.  This feature can be used in two situations:

  1. When the operations staff want to over-ride the system calculated time, to account for local factors that may be causing the drive time from Google Maps to be inaccurate.
  2. To account for the time taken by the bus to unload students at school for school drop-off trips, and the time to load students into the bus, for school pick-up trips.

To set the adjustment times for yard departs and returns, perform the following steps:

1. Navigate to the Operations->Schedule screen, to display a list of the Scheduled tasks and

2. Click on the  icon, under the Action column, in the row of the task for which you wish to set adjustment times to Google Maps calculated drive times

2. This will open the 'Change Yard' screen.  You will find two data entry fields titled 'Drive time adjustment (mins)', one to set the drive time adjustment from the departure yard to first stop of the route, and the other, to set the adjustment for the drive time from the last stop of the route to the return yard.

Note:

To be able to edit/update the adjustment entry fields, the user's role must include permissions to change 'Schedule Impacting Fields' on the Schedule screen.

3. You may enter a value between -10 and +30 in the adjustment fields.  For example, if you put in a value of '5' as the adjustment to the drive time between the yard and the first stop, and the system calculated drive time between the yard and the first stop is determined by Google Maps to be 12 minutes, the system will allow 17 minutes for the drive from the yard to the first stop.  If the first stop time of the route is 7:00 AM, the yard departure time in the Schedule will hence be set to 6:43 AM [i.e., 7:00 AM - 17 minutes].

The adjustment to the yard return time works the same way; any value entered in the 'Drive time adjustment' field for yard return will be applied to the Google Maps estimated drive time from the last stop to the return yard.

The adjustment value can also be negative, between 0 and -10.  A negative adjustment value will reduce the drive time estimated by Google Maps by the adjustment amount, though this is not expected to be used commonly.
