Creating Your CSV File
A CSV file template is provided at the end of this document as an attached file. This should be opened with Microsoft Excel. The fields in the CSV file are detailed below.
Note that school names entered in the student import CSV file must match exactly to those that already exist in the software (see Importing Schools in Bulk).
Also, to ensure the import process does not timeout, limit the number of students to be added to no more than 7,000 per CSV file, and the size of the file must not exceed 1MB.

Importing Your CSV File
The student import process allows a user to add new students, or modify existing students, in bulk using a csv file.
To import students, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Set-up > Students
- Select Import Students (see screenshot below).
3. The pop out screen for “Import Students” will appear. Choose your CSV file and then select upload.
4. After selecting upload, you will get confirmation that the data has been successfully uploaded. If any errors are encountered, Do not try uploading the file again! Please take a screenshot, and send the screenshot to support@bytecurve.com for further assistance. Bytecurve will request a copy of the student file for evaluation if needed. Please do not send unencrypted student data to the helpdesk.
Importing Students with Updates
When attempting to process a student import, which includes record "updates" the maximum number of records we recommend uploading at one time is 5,000 records.
You will see the image below after uploading your first file, containing 5,000 records indicating that the upload of the CSV file completed, and has been loaded into a "transaction" in our system which will begin comparing each of the students in the file against existing records for that customer.
After the upload, it takes time for the system to process all these records and if this time exceeds the time the browser waits for a response from the back-end process, you will see an error message, like the one below. This actually does not indicate an error; the system is still processing your records.
Depending on the overall system load and other factors, it may take up to two hours for 5,000 records to process updating.
